Course Structure and Content
The course is of a high standard and covers all of the essential aspects of working with young people in the context of a parish. The course aims to enable participants to realise that the youth work they are engaged in is greatly valued by the parish and diocese, and to increase their confidence as well as their ability.
The structure of the course is as follows:
Saturday Sessions – The course content will primarily be explored over 4 Saturdays:
Saturday 19th February; Saturday 2nd April; Saturday 7th May and Saturday 4th June 2011 at the Christian Education Centre in Crawley
The sessions will all be rooted in prayer and include some basic theology to build up the confidence of the participants in their own faith and in their ability to share it.
Saturday 1 – The basics of working with young people: why do it, how to do it, youth culture, being a team
Saturday 2 – Developing your skills: ice-breakers, group work, planning and evaluating, leadership
Saturday 3 – Praying with young people: how do you get them to pray, ideas, practice and theology
Saturday 4 – Practical Skills: health and safety, child protection, safe in mind, body and spirit, trips
Diocesan and Parish Events – The participants will be invited to involve themselves in a number of events to help develop their skills and confidence. These events could be at diocesan level as well as local parish level, and could include a residential experience (possibly a Parish Confirmation group residential, Youth Gather and/or a Parish Youth BBQ).

Support outside the teaching sessions will be offered by the Diocesan Youth Service and graduates of the eli course.
